Jupiter Flight and the Wisdom in Rowdiness
A music review of this cool band I know, oh yea, and Jupiter is moving
“I didn’t know how to play an instrument. My older brothers were playing together and I wanted in. So, I picked up the bass.”
“So how did you learn?”
“I just picked up… the… bass.”
“And then?”
“And then I never put it down.”
“You didn’t channel some spirit?”
“No, nothing. I just played.”
Daniel, the youngest brother in Jupiter Flight, shared this with me as we stood outside SRO—a next-to-a-liquor-store kind of dive bar. Inside, the bar had depth. It was completely red, bathed in moody red lights that gave it a speakeasy feel—like you were stepping into another time. The crowd was dramatic, like everyone knew they were part of something cinematic. If you knew that the owners gussied up the place with $3k worth of fresh flowers every week, you’d be striking a pose, too! 🎭
That night, the brothers—Jorge, Ricardo and Daniel—were about to release their EP album Time Capsule. But really, they were the time capsule. They beam with charisma and humility, not to mention a shiny rock n’ roll sense of fashion.
Standing next to them on that City Heights corner in San Diego, I could feel it: how close they are. To each other. To their mom, Valerie. The way they talked about their family, the way they looked at each other with admiration—it was clear. These men hold a sophisticated reverence for the feminine.
From how tenderly they spoke about each other to the softness I could feel in them—the lightness on their feet (especially Jorge)—they seemed at ease with their feminine qualities. That’s style. That’s power.
‘Family is fucking everything.’
Energetically, they were holding one another as we talked.
Why am I telling you this?
Because this group of music makers rocks me.
When I listen to their music, I thrash my head around, scream lyrics like mantras, and laugh at myself the whole way through. It’s a good time.🙃
I’ve been wanting to write this since their release party—over a year ago, so clearly instant gratification isn’t my go-to spice. Nope. I’ve been savoring it! And now I want you to taste it too.
There’s music that’s catchy…and then there’s music that catches you.
Soundcheck: About the Music
The sounds on Time Capsule, the meditative lyrics and the chemistry between the bandmates—the brothers… they caught me.
Clean. Original. Magnetic.
“We made the record sound just like we do in the garage, with minimal add-ons.”
And it works. I felt like I was rocking out in a garage on a hot summer night in Chicago in the early 2000s—oh, the memories.
It’s not just music—it’s a transmission.🚗
Classical inspiration: Sergei Rachmaninoff
Swirling, mystical, psych-rock
Some groups to catch a feel:
The White Stripes, The Strokes, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, Queens of the Stone Age, The Doors, Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys
The Power of Three
What makes them special? Supernatural sibling power.
Sure, there are plenty of sibling bands—Kings of Leon, Oasis, The Beach Boys. Fewer are made up of only siblings—like Ace of Base or The Jackson 5. And even fewer are exclusively brother bands—enter The Bee Gees, The Jonas Brothers, Jupiter Flight.
Ricardo: soothing, meditative vocals
Jorge: sings and plays drums like a wild sorcerer
Daniel: consistent presence—anchoring with quiet intensity
The archetypal bond of brothers transcends genre and time.
They’ve got that instinct. For raw rock. For sound that breathes.
Heart + Heritage
The band plays with heart and heritage. Spanish lyrics sneak in, tying back to their Mexican roots.
When I asked about the name Jupiter Flight, Jorge told me:
“Jupiter is the biggest planet. Vast, selfless— it’s got integrity. Embodying something ancient: an act of love in motion, a cosmic heart orbiting by design.”
My ears perked. An astrology reference? I eagerly chimed in, “Jupiter is known as the Greater Benefic—the bringer of blessings, abundance and divine protection. It’s the planet that expands, uplifts and connects the earthly with the celestial. Connecting us humans with our most integrated selves— our highest self. The one that lives in integrity, in complete alignment with purpose.”
Jorge appeared entranced—like he was connecting dots—further uncovering the meaning behind the group’s name. He mentioned that their mom was raised in a village in Mexico known for its sacred feminine knowledge and old-world spiritual traditions.🧙🏽♀️
Time Capsule: Track-by-Track
🎲 1. Dance with the Roulette
A “rattle your bones” kind of feel.
Eclectic, strange sounds shake the dust off. Let’s go.🤘🏽
This song leads you somewhere. You let go, and they take the wheel and drive.
🌒 2. Before the Night
Slows everything down.
I drop into my center. My breath deepens. My chest expands.
Lyrics like:
“Patience as patience goes…”
“You want to seek control, you try to grab and hold”
It’s meditative medicine.
⚡ 3. Palace of Calamity
Erupts from the start. 🚀
Explosive and perfectly timed.
The pauses? Just as powerful as the sound.
“Mama, father… have you lost your way…?
sista, brotha… don’t reta-a-a-liate…”
You feel their connection—instinctual, telepathic.👽
🌊 4. Part of My Design
Slow. Steady.
Starts with Spanish lyrics, smooth and grounding.
Line that stays with me:
“My mind is free for now.”
It’s a catchy tune and I’m in love with it!
Right here is where we discover the wisdom in rowdiness.
Final Word?
Reason #88 to give them a listen?
🕺🏽Your body will speak for itself💃🏽
Oh and Jupiter, the planet, is going to change signs from Gemini into Cancer on June 9, 2025. And Jupiter loves being in emotion-rich Cancer. Stay attuned—I’ll be writing about it. And you’ll be needing a soundtrack!! 😉
